Summer approaches fall

Unbelievable. Summer in Sweden is almost over. Meanwhile, I know all my neighbors. Understanding and talking Swedish is still a major challenge. Nevertheless, I like it here very much.

The end of summer brings not only colors ...

... it's also the time of harvest.

Loads of chanterelle, lingonberries, apples and occationally one or two boletus’.

The long days diminish. I am acctually able to see dusk and dawn now, not missing it while still sleeping.

Animals are hard to catch with my camera

Deer and rabbit stay in the woods. There are mostly insects around. Oh yes, the dreaded mosquitos have come out, too.

The last swallows

There is just one pair of swallows still here. Will they get their young ones ready to fly south before it gets too cold?

At least they feed them like crazy.

Already three months in Sweden

EW July 31, 2025

It’s amazing. I have been living in Sweden for more that three months now. So far, I feel quite well estabished.

We had a heat spell here which reminded me very much of my time in Maryland where the weather forecast often called for “hazy, hot and humid” conditions.

Finally, I found some time to remove the rust on Big Paul. Looks a lot better now.

It's getting more quiet in the woods

The shadows are getting longer every day. The animals come a lot less on the property, lest the rabbits. I caught one on video raiding my flower bed. If you like, you can watch it on:

Now, nature offers food in abundance. There are berries and mushrooms in the woods and the hedges are full of raspberries to supplement my meals.

Unbelievable, I am already two months in Sweden and Midsummer has just past. Time flies. I was invited to a local Midsummer celebration. It started by raising the midsummer pole with traditional music. Thereafter was dancing around the pole. It was quite some fun.

My animals ...

I love living here with lots of wild animals around – well most of them. The ants invading my house are really a nuissance.

The swallows perform artistic flight maneuvers to catch insects and feeding them to their young ones.

Occationally, I get visits from a dove.

Most of all, I enjoy watching the deer

The youngsters are already losing their baby dots and start to eat grass. However, they do not seem to clean theit little butts. That is still mom’s job.

The clouds are hanging low and the wind howles around the house today. That is a good time to write another article.

My office room is now completely painted and I can think about how I want to furnish it.

Spring moves already towards summer. All the swallows are now here and I saw the first young birds toddling over the lawn.

The garden is still full of colors

Bushes and trees were still in bloom a few days ago but heavy rain and wind ended this beauty.

Thanks to the care and gardening skills of the former owners of the house, there is an abundance of colorfull flowers all around the property to be enjoyed.
