Summer is passing

EW

Summer went so fast! And it was a hot summer, even here in the north.

Though it was very dry and most flowers suffered, we had an abundance of roses.

Now, the leaves turn yellow and start to fall. The mornings are misty and the bright days are full of color.

This year, I saw the biggest rainbow ever. I had to sandwitch two fotos to show it in one piece.

I learned something about the Fireweed: It starts blooming at the bottom and over the summer, the blossoms go higher and higher. When they reach the top, summer ist over.

I started a few projects this year. Among them was baking my own pizza. Well, it worked out okay. However, I could not find toppings that I liked very much. Everything tastes different here.

Finally, I started to clear some land for our intended orchard.

Due to the drought, my apple harvest was rather small, as were the apples.

The wild life still fascinates me. One day, I caught a young swift or hawk swallow who rested on the wall of the barn.

That’s it for now. More to come.

More than a Year

EW

It has been a while since my last post. After one year, life seems to go into a routine. Well, I feel pretty much at home here, get around my daily tasks and there is still a lot new to discover, like, how it works here with the health system, e.g., dentist, doctors, prescription drugs and more.

It was my first birthday here. Back then, my mom always put daffodils on my birthday table. Now I have them in my garden, even diffent kinds of them.

Projects I finished

Finally, all the firewood is in the shed. It was quite a pile outside for drying and it took me some time to bring it in the barn and stack it properly.

Another task was to finish the bridge over the ditch. Now I can access that piece of land and start planning what to do there. I think, we will plant trees there if the ground is suitable.

And of course, there is a wealth of flowers ...

… other than daffodils.

Happy Easter

EW

Easter Bunnies are raiding my property. However, I did nor find any Easter eggs hidden under the bushes. Too bad, I have to cook and stain them myself.

And it's time to prepare for next winter

Since the house is mainly heated with wood, there is a lot of wood cutting and wood chopping to do. I felled five trees in winter – that gives me plenty of work now.

End of Winter?

EW

After more than two months, temperatures are finally climbing above freezing.

My favorite bathing lake was frozen solid and hidden under a blanket of snow.

Animals come out of the woods in search of food

There are many tracks and footprints imprinted in the snow on my property.

I filmed some deer eating scattered birdseed at the bird feeder and published it on YouTube:

After winter is before winter

I used up almost all of my firewood by now. Therefore, I needed to start taking down trees for next winter’s supply. That will keep me busy for a while.
