At age 41, I quit my brilliant career. To hell with stress, heteronomy and the lack of purpose. Which also meant, to hell with all the nice money, my status and safety.
I decided to embark on a journey with no well-defined outcome. There was just the vague knowing that I wanted more happiness and fulfillment. The real thing. My thing. Whatever that was.
To cut the story of a long roller coaster ride short (I may tell that later), I ended up finding “myself”. And my soul business that I had never even dreamed of before. So, I went all in.
Usually, stories like that have a grand finale, saying: … and they lived happily ever after.
Not true.
At least, it’s not fully true.
Nothing stays as it was
Yeah, I’ve had a great time so far. Nevertheless, a certain form of reality kicks in now that I cannot just change at the turn of a dime. It’s about a conscious, healthy and joyful adaptation to getting older. And taking my dream business along.
It’s another game changer. In a way similar to what I experienced at the age of 41.
Actually I’m still all alive and kicking. But it’s time to continue in a more relaxed manner. With much more time „off duty“ and a much more flexible schedule.
How is it going to go with a little less physical strength, with a little less energy? With investing more time into keeping my body healthy and fit? And less desire to go full tilt around the clock?
Unknown waters. Open horizon.
I have the choice

But this time, I can trust and need not worry. Because I know from my own life‘s experience it will work out fine. Solutions will present themselves whenever necessary. And – the choice is mine.
Modern technology, for example, is helping a lot. I am taking my business from offline to online.
No more need to be physically present. Working with a laptop whenever and from wherever I like. As long as I can grab a good internet connection. Simply perfect!
Solution on four wheels: „Der Dicke Paul“
And now, my future mobile office is coming along.
As you can see from my partner’s blog post above, we are the new parents of „Der Dicke Paul“, the big yellow van that used to run for the German Postal Services.

Yes – it will take time and work to turn it into a reliable vehicle that allows us to spontaneously break away, whenever we please. But it’s happening!
So, for now, I wish all of you a very, very, very happy and successful 2024!
See you again soon!

It is nice to hear from you Ewald.
I still remember my visit at your house as if it would have been yesterday. My best regards also to Joyce.
Lovely to read your blog. My name is Deirddra Limoges. I met Evald in Virginia, USA many years ago, and have sort of followed along from time to time thanks to Facebook. Nice to read both of your posts. Best to you and your choice to be free. I very much appreciate this experience and have done something similar myself. Happy New Year to you both. Best, Deirddra
Dear Deirddra. It’s so nice to hear from you. I too read your posts whenever I logged into FB. For some reason, I have a great dislike to share anything personal on FB. Happy New Year to you, too. And please stay in touch.
