Dream Business – Next Level

GEF

At age 41, I quit my brilliant career. To hell with stress, heteronomy and the lack of purpose. Which also meant, to hell with all the nice money, my status and safety.

I decided to embark on a journey with no well-defined outcome. There was just the vague knowing that I wanted more happiness and fulfillment. The real thing. My thing. Whatever that was.

To cut the story of a long roller coaster ride short (I may tell that later), I ended up finding “myself”. And my soul business that I had never even dreamed of before. So, I went all in.

Usually, stories like that have a grand finale, saying: … and they lived happily ever after.

Not true.
At least, it’s not fully true.

Nothing stays as it was

Yeah, I’ve had a great time so far. Nevertheless, a certain form of reality kicks in now that I cannot just change at the turn of a dime. It’s about a conscious, healthy and joyful adaptation to getting older. And taking my dream business along.

It’s another game changer. In a way similar to what I experienced at the age of 41.

Actually I’m still all alive and kicking. But it’s time to continue in a more relaxed manner. With much more time „off duty“ and a much more flexible schedule.

How is it going to go with a little less physical strength, with a little less energy? With investing more time into keeping my body healthy and fit? And less desire to go full tilt around the clock?

Unknown waters. Open horizon.

I have the choice

dreambusiness01
Working whenever and from wherever I want.

But this time, I can trust and need not worry. Because I know from my own life‘s experience it will work out fine. Solutions will present themselves whenever necessary. And – the choice is mine.

Modern technology, for example, is helping a lot. I am taking my business from offline to online.
No more need to be physically present. Working with a laptop whenever and from wherever I like. As long as I can grab a good internet connection. Simply perfect!

Solution on four wheels: „Der Dicke Paul“

And now, my future mobile office is coming along.

As you can see from my partner’s blog post above, we are the new parents of „Der Dicke Paul“, the big yellow van that used to run for the German Postal Services.

Lots of work coming up.

Yes – it will take time and work to turn it into a reliable vehicle that allows us to spontaneously break away, whenever we please. But it’s happening!

So, for now, I wish all of you a very, very, very happy and successful 2024!
See you again soon!

That’s it for now. More to come.

Leave Everything You Know Behind

EW

Do you know that feeling of slowly being pulled down? Life seems to establish itself in more and more routines. You know what will be happening tomorrow, next week, next month. Some may find comfort in repetitve tasks.

However, there is this faint voice in the distance calling for a change whispering a promise. David Whyte’s poem “Tilicho Lake” keeps coming to my mind, prodding me, luring me, challenging me. And from the depths of my being arises a fear mingeled with an excitement that makes me feel alive, fills me with energy.

You can find David Whyte’s poem on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpj0o7w4xyM

So, how shall I go about it?

For me, it means leaving the comfort and security of my old life. And, funny enough, I got rid of my reliable car and bought myself a retired van from the Postal Services, which I now want to transform into my mobile hotel room.

Want an old Postal Service van to start a more independent life? You got to choose.

There is a lot of work to be done

Naturally, this is rather a project than a car. Foremost, it needed a 2nd front seat since the contraption that occupied its space was only good for sorting letters and not fit for accomodating my partner. For sure, I do not plan to do this journey without her.

Postal Service cars come without a 2nd front seat.
The seat is in. Yeah!

And then came the first test of heart

The car broke down just before Christmas and the local garage closed for a 20 day vacation. I guess that is my first test of patience and willingness to embrace the unexpected.

An there is "Der Dicke Paul", as my partner named the car, at the empty parking lot in front of the garage waiting for its surgery, which will hopefully result in a full recovery.

That’s it for now. More to come.
